What is JHRTS?

The junior membership division of HRTS, created in 2000, continues the organization’s longstanding tradition of community-building, and allows HRTS to do what no other organization ever has — to nurture professionals working in the TV and entertainment industry who are in the earliest stages of their careers. Led by the JHRTS Board, comprised of a diverse group of elected JHRTS members, the junior society connects, educates and provides access to the industry through bicoastal member-only events, the HRTS Mentorship Program and other resources and initiatives such as the annual JHRTS Script Competition, HRTS Diversity & Inclusion Guide and the new Writers Group Program.

This junior society was created by Astrid Oviedo Miano, an assistant at Artists Television Group. In August of 2000, Astrid presented the idea of a Jr. HRTS to then HRTS president, Tom Nunan. The idea was, and still is, a membership that is exclusive to junior level entertainment professionals (i.e. assistants, coordinators, and emerging creatives) from any area of the TV and entertainment.

EDUCATION

The Junior Membership of the HRTS holds speaker and panel events conducted by high profile industry leaders, most often followed by a question and answer session. These sessions afford JHRTS members a chance to expand their knowledge of the industry, while also having the opportunity to meet their peers before and after the lectures.

CHARITY

Philanthropy events are scheduled throughout the year and allow our junior members to give back to the community, while also giving them an opportunity to network.

MENTORSHIP

Junior members are eligible to apply to the invaluable annual mentorship experience where junior members are afforded the opportunity to be paired with a mentor who can provide advice and guidance in their careers.

NETWORKING

In addition to the above-mentioned educational and charitable events, JHRTS also organizes networking mixers that allow members to meet, develop, and build professional relationships.
